SLALEY HALL SET FOR SPECIAL DELIVERY OF THE MAIL FOURSOMES
The popular Northumberland golf resort, a European Tour host venue, which is a part of The QHotels Group, will host the final four rounds of the event – last 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and grand final – from October 3 and 5.

The Daily Mail Foursomes is the oldest national-sponsored event in amateur golf and celebrates its 60th anniversary next year. Since its launch, more than five million golfers have taken part in the club qualifying competitions with more than 100,000 players competing in annual inter-club knockout rounds. The tournament had managed to play out the first-round last year before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, forcing a 12-month suspension and eventually causing the cancellation of the 2021 event to allow the 2020 tournament to be completed.

Tournament organiser Hamish Webb said: "Ever since we announced that the tournament was going to be returning, the whole process has just taken on such a feel-good factor. Every time we speak with any of the competitors, they are just glad to have it back and underway which speaks to how important the Daily Mail Foursomes is to amateur golf.” Jonny Mould, Slaley Hall’s head of golf, added: "We are incredibly excited to host the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes at Slaley Hall. In the amateur golf world, there is no competition more prestigious, and we can promise a perfectly prepared course, incredible scenery, and first-class hospitality.” Managed by The QHotels Group, the UK’s largest golf resort operator, Slaley Hall is considered one of the best courses in the North of England, with its spectacular surroundings and fantastic facilities.

Set in 1,000 acres of Northumberland moorland and forest, the venue boasts a magnificent four-star hotel in an elegant Edwardian mansion, with two challenging championship courses – the Hunting and the Priestman – which have played host to no fewer than 18 European Tour and European Senior Tour events. The 7,000-yard, par-72 Hunting, designed by Dave Thomas, has lush sweeping fairways, streams, lakes, towering trees, and banks of rhododendrons – but aesthetics aside, it will catch out the unwary. Well-placed bunkers and tricky greens make this USGA standard course a real challenge.

The quality of Slaley Hall’s elder layout is illustrated by the fact the course is often dubbed ‘The Augusta of the North’. The Priestman course was designed by Neil Coles and opened in 1999. Beautifully maintained, the course has matured magnificently. It sits on the west side of the estate, with panoramic views of the Tyne Valley and some daunting water features, and wind can be a factor on a course which hosts regularly European seniors’ events.
