BGL launches ‘Pathway to Golf’ to inspire new generation of golfers

The scheme introduces a structured route into the game for newcomers, starting with an affordable £10 taster session with equipment provided and progressing through beginner group lessons, short-game and on-course coaching, and a period of free membership designed to ease the transition into regular play.
"Golf has seen a resurgence in recent years, but many people still feel intimidated by the traditional pathways into the sport,” said Guy Riggott, COO of BGL’s Golf Division. "This programme removes those barriers. It is friendly, affordable, and it gives people the tools and confidence to enjoy the game in a safe environment.”
The ‘Pathway to Golf’ spans four key stages:
1. Taster session – A one-off group session introducing the basics of the game and the equipment in a relaxed, social setting.
2. Beginner coaching – Four relaxed group lessons focusing on core skills such as grip, stance, and swing.
3. ‘Get course ready’ – A follow-up series of four more group lessons, starting with short-game and concluding with an on-course session.
4. Free membership – One month of membership to the club, including a weekly social session, to help participants transition into regular golf.
The initiative is being rolled out across BGL’s portfolio of golf venues around the country, launching in nine of its clubs – starting in Nottinghamshire and spanning all the way to Bristol and Kent.
The move comes as BGL is witnessing a boom in participation, helped by its strategy to develop and invest in its network of par-3 short courses, in addition to service and tech focussed driving ranges.
The company’s new programme is tailored to meet the needs of people trying golf for the first time, with an emphasis on affordability, inclusion, and community.
"The focus here isn’t just on technique, it’s on enjoyment and belonging,” Riggott added. "We want people to finish the programme not only with some golf skills, but with new friends, new confidence, and a real sense that they’ve joined the game.”
The ‘Pathway to Golf’ is now live across many of BGL’s venues and accepting new participants through each club’s website.
