Royal Auckland & Grange Golf Club Strengthens Safety and Operational Oversight with Obbi Golf
The club, led by CEO Ed Chapman, employs around 60 staff and serves over 2,000 members. Chapman describes the introduction of Obbi as "a real game-changer for how we manage safety and accountability across every department.” "Having instant notifications when there’s an incident gives me peace of mind,” Chapman explains. "I can see it straight away and know if I need to follow up or if the team has it under control. Before, an incident form might sit in a filing cabinet or get lost on someone’s desk – now it’s logged, actioned, and visible in seconds.” Since implementing Obbi 18 months ago, Royal Auckland & Grange has digitised its core compliance and reporting processes – from risk assessments and incident tracking to staff training and daily checklists – giving both management and the board full oversight of safety activity. "One of our board members runs a marine salvage company, so safety is always top of mind,” says Chapman. "Being able to show live reports of what’s been logged, what safety actions we’re taking, and the risk assessments we have in place gives the board and me real confidence that we’re on top of things.” Chapman credits the club’s successful rollout to Obbi’s onboarding support and a deliberate focus on departmental "champions” who encouraged adoption across the team. "Any new system takes time and buy-in,” he adds. "Obbi’s team helped guide us through the setup and training, and having those champions internally made all the difference. Over time, our staff have really embraced it – especially as the app has evolved to be even easier to use.” Beyond safety, Obbi has simplified maintenance tracking, first-aid renewals, and facility checks, creating one clear source of truth across departments. Chapman highlights the efficiency gains and oversight benefits as the biggest wins: "If you care about governance, and you want to know your standards are being met without spending hours chasing people, this is a no-brainer. Everything’s in one place – checklists, certificates, incidents, risk assessments – all live and searchable.” Reflecting on broader change management, Chapman notes the importance of engaging the right people early: "When it comes to adopting new technology, you’ve got to find the ones who love change and tech in each department – they’ll pull everyone else along.
