Thetford has long been regarded as one of the best winter courses in the region. The heathland course is free-draining and is often playable within minutes of even the heaviest downpour. Our policy is to play on main greens and main tees whenever possible and the course is only closed on average for five-or-so days per year. And you can wear light-coloured clothing without fearing the laundry bill!

It is a terrific challenge for golfers of all abilities. The long par-fours take some reaching when there is not too much run but the par-fives offer the chance of gaining a stroke - as long as you are not too wayward. The four par-threes are crackers - and every now and then they blow up in your face for a surprising high score. 

We welcome visitors and encourage you all to take the chance to play a classic James Braid layout. The challenging tree-lined course has an abundance of scented gorse, broom and heather to greet those who venture too far from the fairway. Individuals, groups, visitors, golf societies and corporate clients will all discover a genuinely warm welcome, excellent golf facilities and fine hospitality.

                                                             COURSE

Situated less than a quarter of a mile from the dual-carriageway A11, Thetford Golf Club is set in a magnificent Breckland forest area of East Anglia. The challenging 18 hole, 6,849 yards, par 72 course is a delight to play and is reputed to be one of the best in the region.

The superb drainage makes play possible for 52 weeks of the year. The course is a haven for wildlife and we make a conscious effort to protect the natural habitat of the birds, insects and animals on a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Especially delightful are the little muntjac deer, which you may see grazing in the shadows of the trees. Many have become so used to golfers that they come up to feed from you hand. There are similarly tame pheasants and squirrels, as well as families of hares and at the start and end of the day you can often see our herd of fallow deer.

Our Facilities

Indoor Swing Studio

We opened the Indoor Swing Studio at the beginning of last year and it has proved popular with our members and also with beginners. We can provide a comprehensive swing diagnosis using the latest technology. The GC2 launch monitor displays all aspects of ball-striking. It can be used for Gapping Sessions and also for custom-fit of new clubs as well as tutored practice sessions.

The Practice Ground

We have a grass practice area which is 130 yards wide and 250 yards long with flags at vaious distances. You can choose to hit off the grass or from one of our range matts, either way this is the perfect area for you to improve your long game.

The Short Game Area

This area is perfect for all short game practice with a grass tee to practice your pitching on with greens at 70,95 and 120 yards. A 4th green with two bunkers on and another bunker 50 yards back, and some lovely little bumps around the green to practice those tricky little chips. Up by the large putting green you will also find another chipping green which is perfect to use just before you tee off.

We have two putting greens, one is a smaller one with little burrow and the other is a large green with plenty of slope to really test your skills.
